Selecting the music for your wedding ceremony is such a special, beautiful thing! Here’s the scoop on my voice, and a general overview to get you oriented to ceremony music.
I sing classical AND contemporary music, which to most people means songs that were written a long time ago, AND music that was written recently and you could hear on the radio.
I also sing contemporary sacred music – which I like to describe as the songs or hymns that you may have grown up with in your spiritual community.
Here are a couple of examples of me singing classical music as a solo voice, with piano and organ.
“Romance” by Claude Debussy can add dimension to a set of beautiful prelude music.
“Ave Maria” by Franz Schubert is a favorite to include as a prelude.
Depending on the song, I can also sing classical pieces with your string quartet or coordinate alternative instrument voicing.
I also sing contemporary music – which to you might mean something composed in the last few decades.
Train’s “Marry Me” – solo voice with guitar – a wedding fav. In fact, I have reports from DJ Derek Tobler that he’s playing this very recording at weddings this season. This is my “her” version, in case, ladies, you wanted to serenade your man. My cover of the original version and the background to this recording can be found here.
This is really nice one in the reception.
Going back a handful of decades, this song is from the famous musical West Side Story, and it’s a *beautiful* wedding duet with piano. Technically “contemporary”, but a little bit of an “oldie but goodie” and written by the great American composer, Leonard Bernstein. Ahhh. Love this song. (Never mind the floating picture of my face…)
The samples you see above is by no means a comprehensive list of repertoire. I also often get special song requests.
I always connect with you personally, ahead of time, to assemble the perfect selection and arrangement of music for your wedding ceremony. This is a beautiful, sweet, simple yet often profound time where we really get to the root of what is perfect for your special ceremony.
